Kemp Little, the leading technology and digital media firm, announced today the launch of its tax practice and four other hires into its corporate practice.

Michael Cashman joined the firm as its first tax partner in January 2011. Cashman, a dual qualified solicitor (UK and Australia) and chartered accountant, was previously a partner at Mayer Brown. After taking his degree at Macquarie University, Sydney and qualifying at KPMG in Australia, he joined the tax department of Freshfields in London in 1989, moving to Morgan Lewis’ London office in 1994, where he became a partner in 1997.

Siobhan McElhinney, Head of Corporate at Kemp Little said: “We are delighted that Michael has joined us to launch our tax capability. He brings a real wealth and breadth of experience across the corporate tax field, particularly in the technology sector, together with a down to earth style and a genuine ability to communicate a technical subject in plain English. Clients have responded very positively and we see tax as a key growth area.”

Cashman said: “It’s great to be on board at Kemp Little to start the firm’s tax practice. The first few months here have shown that there’s a huge demand from the firm’s technology and digital media clients for tax advice in their UK and international transactions, operations and planning, and I’m really looking forward to developing our tax capability as we build out from here.”

Cashman’s arrival is part of broader drive to expand the firm’s corporate practice. McElhinney commented: “In the first 7 months of 2011, our corporate billings are 95% up on the same period in 2010 and we’re experiencing growth in all areas but have seen particular demand from clients in digital media, e-commerce and marketing services. This is a fantastic achievement by the whole team and shows the strength of our position as transaction experts in the technology and digital media market. To support our growth, we’re delighted also to have welcomed into our corporate practice recently a number of outstanding lawyers– Adam Kuan from Herbert Smith, Abida Khan from Shoosmiths and James Wilkinson from Fladgate Fielder.”
