Kemp Little LLP, the specialist City law firm, advised leading business and technology solutions provider EDS on its winning ATLAS consortium bid for Increment 1 of the UK Ministry of Defence's Defence Information Infrastructure (Future) Project (DII(F)) , which has a total budget in the region of £2.3 billion. Further increments are expected following the MoD's evaluation of Increment 1.
The ATLAS Consortium comprises EDS as lead contractor, tier 1 partner Fujitsu Services, and key subcontractors General Dynamics, EADS Defence and Security Systems and LogicaCMG. The project will consolidate numerous existing information networks into a single next-generation infrastructure and is an integral part of the UK 's future military strategy. The network is intended to enable better communication between headquarters, battlefield support and the front line, linking about 150,000 desktop terminals and 340,000 users in approximately 2,000 locations, across all increments.
Working as an integral part of the EDS legal and commercial team and reporting to senior EDS corporate counsel David MacKeith, Kemp Little LLP commercial group partner David Meredith and associate Jim Leason advised EDS on each of the four consortium partner contracts. EDS lawyers Emma Courtney and David MacKeith also negotiated the prime MoD contract, which was awarded on 22 March 2005 .
Matt Bennett, UK Legal Director said, "Once again, Kemp Little provided the high standard of service we have become accustomed to. As an integral part of the EDS business team that negotiated subcontracts with the other ATLAS consortium members, they played an important role in the overall bid success. "
David Meredith said, "We are delighted to have assisted EDS in this key project. This high value, high complexity technology project had a relatively low legal gearing. To have fielded two of the total of four lawyers within the EDS legal team placed us on the front line at all times, enabling us to provide seamless support from within the client team. We are also very pleased that EDS have asked us to continue to support ATLAS going forward."
