Kemp Little LLP, the leading UK technology law firm, today announced the launch of its dedicated competition and regulatory practice with the recruitment of partner Susannah Sheppard.
Susannah is a senior competition and regulatory lawyer. After a spell as an EU law specialist in the Cabinet Office’s Fast Stream Programme (the Civil Service’s accelerated development programme), she joined Theodore Goddard in 1998 and from 2002 to 2005 was a partner in that firm’s (and from 2003, Addleshaw Goddard’s) Competition and Regulatory Group. Since early 2006, Susannah has been spending part of her time on competition and regulatory matters at Expedia, the leading online travel company, which is also a client of Kemp Little.
Susannah’s competition law experience covers the full range of behavioural and compliance work, merger control, inquiries and strategic advice. Her regulatory work focuses on the technology, financial services, media, telecommunications and travel sectors.
With Susannah’s arrival at the end of January 2008, Kemp Little will for the first time offer a dedicated competition and regulatory service for its clients.
Susannah Sheppard commented: "I am delighted to be joining Kemp Little to launch their dedicated competition and regulatory practice. I have been particularly impressed with the quality of the firm's work for its clients in the technology, financial services, media, telecoms and travel sectors and am looking forward to joining the team and building the firm's work around its technology core in the competition and regulatory areas.”
Following a strategy review in 2006 and feedback from client interviews, Kemp Little’s focus is on providing a comprehensive range of legal services to clients in the technology sectors and the sectors that technology transforms. With growth in the firm’s work of 54% in the two years between 2005 and 2007 for the May to October 6 month period, broadening the services offered is a key element of Kemp Little’s strategy.
Competition is the second new practice area to be launched this year, following the successful launch of the firm’s litigation practice with the hire of partner Paul Garland in April 2007 and the recruitment from BLP of IP litigation solicitor Jeremy Harris earlier in November. The launch of the competition and litigation practices, along with the promotion to the partnership of telecoms specialist Mike Conradi in October 2007, reflect this decision to broaden the services the firm provides around technology.
Commenting on the launch of the firm’s competition and regulatory practice, Calum Murray, Partner and Commercial Technology Group Head said: "We are delighted Susannah is joining us. When asked how we could improve our service, our clients told us they wanted Kemp Little to provide a comprehensive service around technology. We listened to our clients and after the successful launch of our litigation practice, competition and regulatory has been the next area for us to address. Susannah's superb reputation and experience and her work for clients in the technology sectors and the sectors that technology transforms makes this appointment a great fit.”
