Competition law has real teeth in the UK. Directors can be disqualified for anti-competitive activity; and cartellisation - dishonest anti-competitive behaviour between competitors – is a criminal offence. Equally, companies increasingly can and do use competition law proactively to improve a negotiating position or to deal effectively with anti-competitive behaviour in their market place.
