From 28 January 2019, employers can rely on an online Right to Work Checking Service to give employers access to up to date, real time information about migrants’ right to work in the UK and demonstrate they have conducted the necessary checks on migrants to avoid a penalty if they are found to be employing illegal workers.
The service is secure and free to use and will allow employers choose between existing document checks or the online service. This will also be the method employers will have to use to confirm EU nationals have the right to work in the UK given that successful applicants under the EU settlement scheme will be given digital status.
